Exploring the Depths: A Diving Adventure in Chumphon

Nestled along Thailand’s Gulf Coast, Chumphon is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors. However, for those in the know, this tranquil province is a hidden gem, especially for diving enthusiasts. With its crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and unspoiled coral reefs, Chumphon offers a diving experience that is both exhilarating and serene.

Chumphon’s diving scene is characterized by its diversity. The area boasts over 10 dive sites, each offering unique underwater experiences. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced diver, Chumphon has something to offer.

Koh Ngam Yai and Koh Ngam Noi, two small islands just off the coast, are among the most popular dive sites. Here, divers are greeted by stunning coral gardens teeming with colorful fish. The calm, clear waters make it an ideal spot for beginners. For those looking for more adventure, the Hin Phae pinnacle offers a more challenging dive, with the opportunity to spot larger marine life such as whale sharks, and a large school of fishes.

Ko Ngam Yai is the largest island in the Muko Chumphon archipelago. Surrounding the island are several dive sites, with the most notable being a vast and abundant field of sea anemones, which is located at a shallow depth, making it accessible for scuba diving, free diving, and snorkeling.

Ko Ngam Noi, located near Koh Ngam Yai, features well-preserved hard coral reefs, including large table corals and staghorn corals.

Near Ko Ngam Noi, there is a shipwreck dive site featuring the HTMS Prab, a former Navy vessel that was intentionally sunk to create a habitat for fish. This wreck provides an easy and accessible dive site for wreck diving.

Muko Chumphon archipelago is known as a spot where whale sharks, the largest fish in the world, are frequently seen feeding.

The Chumphon Yellow Butterflyfish is a species of butterflyfish that can only be found in the Muko Chumphon archipelago.

The Hin Phae dive site is renowned for its beautiful yellow sea wipes, creating an underwater garden-like scene.

The Hin Phae dive site is known for the large schools of yellowtail fusiliers, with tens of thousands of fish swimming together.
