TAT’s recommendations: Thailand’s COVID-19 control measures for international travellers

Thailand has strict surveillance aimed at safeguarding public health and to allow health authorities to effectively prevent and control the disease.

Bangkok, 06 March, 2020, 09.00 Hrs. – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide clarification regarding the country’s Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) control measures for international travellers.

On 5 March, 2020, Thailand announced a list of four COVID-19-affected countries or areas in the Royal Thai Government Gazette; namely, the People’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions), Republic of Korea, Italian Republic, and Islamic Republic of Iran.

In relation to the announcement, the Ministry of Public Health has released a “Special Announcement of COVID-19 on 5 March 2020” to request cooperation from passengers departing from the disease infected areas to strictly comply with the Ministry’s recommendations, which are aimed at safeguarding public health. The statement also advised the public to not panic, and to practise the basic principles to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections by eating cooked food, using serving spoons, washing hands frequently and wearing a mask when going to a crowded place.

TAT’s recommendations for tourists

Tourists are advised to “travel safely” by practising frequent hand hygiene measures (washing with soap or using alcohol-based gel).

Kindly comply with the primary fever screening at attractions. Travellers showing any signs of the COVID-19 symptoms (fever, coughing, sore throat, runny nose and panting) are subject to further medical evaluation and treatment.

Kindly wear a hygienic mask while travelling, avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms, and avoid visiting crowded places.

If feeling sick, do seek medical care as soon as possible and inform the healthcare worker about the details of your travel history.

Tourists can keep up to date with the COVID-19 situation in Thailand at the TAT Newsroom (https://www.tatnews.org/) and the Department of Disease Control (https://ddc.moph.go.th/viralpneumonia/eng/news.php).
