TAT update: Bangkok closes more venues, extends closure order to 30 April

As part of the nationwide effort to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Bangkok, 27 March, 2020, at 17.00 Hrs. – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide further update that additional venues in Bangkok deemed high-risk areas for the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) have also been ordered to close temporarily.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has also extended its closure order to 30 April, 2020, in line with the Royal Thai Government’s declaration of the state of emergency in a bid to prevent and mitigate the spread of the virus. The closure extension also covers the 26 types of venues that were previously ordered to be closed from 22 March – 12 April.

Exception! Supermarkets, pharmacies, food takeaways and deliveries, and other essential services used in daily life remain open. In addition, the BMA allows dining areas in hospitals to remain open with strict ‘social distancing’ measures, flower shops in markets or weekend markets to remain open, and likewise for essential services by government agencies or state enterprises; such as, Thailand Post and the Immigration Bureau.

The additional venues to be closed from 28 March – 30 April, 2020, are:

1. Children’s playgrounds and kid’s clubs.
2. Snooker and billiard halls.
3. Meeting and event venues both in and outside hotels.
4. Public and private nurseries except in hospitals.
5. Museums.
6. Libraries.

Full list of all venues in Bangkok to remain closed until 30 April, 2020:

1. Restaurants and beverage shops, street food and beverage stalls, (except takeaway and restaurants and beverage shops serving food for hotel guests, and restaurants and beverage shops in hospitals and airports).
2. Shopping malls, department stores, community malls (except supermarket zones, pharmacies or zones selling necessary items and food shops – takeaway is permitted, banks and essential services by government agencies or state enterprises).
3. Eat-in corners at convenience stores.
4. Markets and weekend markets (except sales of fresh and dried food and cooked meals for takeaway, animal feed, pharmacies, flower shops and other necessary items).
5. Beauty salons and barber shops.
6. Tattoo service shops.
7. Skate and rollerblade venues or other similar services.
8. Amusement parks and bowling lanes.
9. Gaming and Internet shops.
10. Golf courses and golf driving ranges.
11. Swimming pools and similar service venues.
12. Fighting cock venues.
13. Buddha amulet sales stalls.
14. Exhibition and convention centres.
15. Educational institutions at all levels including tuition schools.
16. Weight-control services and cosmetic clinics. Additional closure order for medical clinics that offers aesthetic treatments and aesthetic clinics.
17. Health spas, massage shops and beauty treatment shops.
18. Animal spas, animal care centres and clinics.
19. Massage parlours.
20. Saunas and herbal treatment centres.
21. Cinemas and theatres.
22. Fitness centres and sports clubs.
23. Service venues and entertainment places.
24. Boxing stadiums and boxing schools.
25. Sports stadiums.
26. Horse race tracks.
27. All types of race tracks.
28. Children’s playgrounds and kid’s clubs.
29. Public event grounds, such as, concert stages, Likay Thai folk theatres, outdoor cinemas.
30. Museums.
31. Libraries.
32. Meeting and event venues both in and outside hotels.
33. Snooker and billiard halls.
34. Public and private nurseries except in hospitals.
